Overview

DataStax Kubernetes Operator for Apache Cassandra, cass-operator, manages the lifecycle of individual Kubernetes resources while asking you to simply specify the number of nodes and the Cassandra or DSE cluster name in a configuration YAML file. Additional options are available, but for starters, that's essentially all you'll need to specify. Now the process of managing the distributed Cassandra or DSE data platform is turnkey and much easier, which means your team is free to focus on the application layer and its functionality.

Painless Provisioning: Creating a Cassandra datacenter is as simple as providing a YAML to your OpenShift cluster. Nodes are provisioned as pods with configuration rendered out and a management API backing all tasks. The super user is immediately locked down with credentials placed in a Secret. Nodes are started in a rolling fashion with labels tied to seeds. All of the inner machinations associated with the provisioning process are handled automatically with continuous status updates providing human operators with visibility while freeing up their precious time.
Automated Operations: Nothing ever runs perfectly, Cassandra builds on the assumption that failures occur, as does this operator. Nodes will fail, be they at the OpenShift or Cassandra level. The operator seamlessly handles the lost of resources, restarting or even rescheduling as required.
Effortless Remediation: What happens when a node goes down? Is an operator paged? Nope, the pod is restarted. How about if a k8s worker goes away? Easy, reschedule elsewhere with the associated bootstrapping process handled.
