Overview

Ciena’s virtual Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) is transforming the network edge with its ability to deliver network functions in software through its cloud-native, fully-virtualized architecture. It provides operators with the agility, reliability, and scalability required to deliver high-value broadband services to residential and enterprise customers

Ciena’s vBNG is open architected and built to the Broadband Forum’s TR-459 Standard: “Control Plane, User Plane Separation (CUPS) for a disaggregated BNG.” There is no specialized hardware required. It is software based and runs on x86-based, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) servers. This architecture delivers tremendous value.

How broad and large are Benu’s deployments?

Benu’s software is deployed in North and South America, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Our platforms support over 7 Petabytes of traffic per day -- more than all the N. American wireless operators combined. Over 25M businesses and homes rely on Benu software for connectivity. Benu has been deployed in many high-scale Tier-1 networks for nearly a decade.

What are the system requirements for the platform?

Benu’s SD-Edge software is flexible and can be deployed with different CPU and memory configurations, starting with 2 cores and 4GB memory for small trials and deployments.

Does SD-Edge support Open-APIs?

SD-Edge supports open APIs for provisioning, policy and analytics. NetConf/Yang and Restful APIs are part of the platform support that can be called from Benu Portals or 3rd party Orchestrators and Portals.
