MariaDB Enterprise Operator for OpenShift is an operator that manages the full lifecycle of MariaDB Enterprise operands declaratively via Custom Resources
MariaDB Enterprise Kubernetes Operator is a powerful solution designed to provision and operate MariaDB Enterprise Platform, including MariaDB Enterprise Server, MaxScale and Enterprise Cluster (Powered by Galera), seamlessly within Kubernetes environments. It offers a standardized, efficient and secure way to manage the entire lifecycle of your enterprise database fleet across any cloud or on-premises infrastructure.
Ensure continuous service availability by leveraging highly available topologies: Asynchronous replication and Synchronous multi-master via MariaDB Enterprise Cluster (Powered by Galera). The operator fully manages the cluster lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, and proactive monitoring, with automated recovery to minimize downtime.
Leverage MariaDB MaxScale's advanced routing capabilities to intelligently load balance connections. This enables transparent routing of write queries to primary pods and read queries to secondary pods, optimizing performance and scalability.
Perform seamless updates to your MariaDB clusters without any service interruption. The upgrade process intelligently updates secondary pods one at a time, ensuring they are fully synchronized before updating the primary pod.
Manage physical backups declaratively based on mariadb-backup and Kubernetes Volume Snapshots. By leveraging the BACKUP STAGE feature, backups are taken without long read locks or service interruptions. This enables consistent, production-grade backups with minimal impact on running workloads, ideal for high-availability and performance-sensitive environments.
Point-in-Time-Recovery is enabled by combining periodic physical backups made with mariadb-backup or Kubernetes Volume Snapshots with interval-based binlog archiving to object storage. To restore a database, the Operator restores the latest base backup before a target timestamp and replays archived binlogs from the backup’s GTID position up to the requested moment. Additionally, the Enterprise Kubernetes Operator adds a configurable archiving cadence to control RPO, parallelized upload/download to reduce restore time (RTO), and binlog retention policy to prevent uncontrolled storage growth.
The operator automatically issues and rotates TLS certificates for both your MariaDB and MaxScale instances before they expire, configuring the new certificates through rolling updates. Define certificate lifetime and private key algorithm declaratively. Leverage an existing cert-manager issuer in your OpenShift cluster for certificate generation.
