Jio Platforms - Cloud Native 5G Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF)
Access and Mobility Management (AMF) node supports registration management, access control and mobility management function for all 3GPP accesses as well as non-3GPP accesses such as WLAN. AMF also receives mobility related policies from PCF (e.g. mobility restrictions) and forwards them to the UE.
One of the major functions of JPL AMF is registration management in the network. A UE needs to register with the network to receive services. Once registered and if applicable, the UE updates its registration with the network for the following events:
-Periodically, to remain reachable (periodic registration update); or
-Upon mobility (mobility registration update); or
-To update its capabilities or re-negotiate protocol parameters (mobility registration update).
The Mobility Management functions are used to keep track of the current location of a UE. AMF manages the UE mobility tracking and UE reachability using mobility update and periodic registration procedures.
The JPL AMF supports multi-PLMN, storing identities of each PLMN in the list. The UEs can receive one or multiple PLMN identities in a given cell which can be used during cell re-selection and handover.
