Jio Platforms - Cloud Native 5G Security Edge Protection Proxy of 5G SA Core
The JPL Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP) enables operators to achieve end-to-end confidentiality and integrity between source and destination networks. The 5G system architecture introduced SEPP as an entity at the perimeter of the PLMN network to protect control plane traffic that is exchanged between different 5G Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMNs). 5G standards (such as 3GPP TS 23.501 and TS 23.502) stipulate that the SEPP is a mandatory function for MNO interconnect for roaming between standalone 5G cores.
The JPL SEPP performs mutual authentication and
negotiation of cipher suites with the SEPP in the roaming network.
Key Management: The platform handles key management aspects that involve setting up the required
cryptographic keys needed for securing messages on the N32 interface between two SEPPs.
The JPL SEPP supports the following interfaces:
- TLS between SEPPs
- N32-f connection, for sending of JOSE protected messages between the SEPPs
- N32-c connection, for management of the N32 interface
The solution performs topology hiding by limiting the internal topology information visible
to external parties. Also, it provides a single point of access and control to internal NFs.
