Jio Platforms - 5G Short Message Service Function (SMSF) of 5G SA Core
Short Message Service Function (SMSF) is a network entity in the 5G Core Network (5GC). It handles activation and deactivation of user equipment (UE), ensures registration to UDM, maintains UE context, and provides short message services to UE as well as other network functions.
Verifies user's SMS subscription and establishes communication with their device.
Relays the Short Message (SM) to and fro between UE and SMS-GMSC, IWMSC or SMS-Router. Acts as a bridge for SMS messages between the user's device and the various messaging centers.
Records SMS activity and allows for lawful interception of messages as required.
Interaction with AMF and UDM for notification procedure that the UE is available for SMS transfer: Communicates with network functions to signal the user's device is ready to send/receive SMS.
Activation or de-activation of SMS service for a given service user: Enables or disables SMS service for a specific user.
SMSF uses the latest HTTP/2 standard for efficient communication. Also, supports both h2c (clear-text TCP) and h2 (secure TCP).
