Overview

OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (OSA) is a non-profit organization accelerating and democratizing wireless innovation by promoting 3GPP networks using open-source software over Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware. OpenAirInterface (OAI) software stack offers complete 4G and 5G virtualized Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core Network (CN) implementations. The OSA has more than 100 member organizations and thousands of community contributors and users from across the globe. The OAI software is utilized in nearly all ongoing 5G activities and the future 6G.

Allbesmart is an engineering company specializing in software-defined 3GPP implementations. The certification of OAI container images by Red Hat strengthens Allbesmart’s confidence in building commercial products, such as the OAIBOX product line, on top of the OAI 5G stack.

Benefits to working with OpenAirInterface

Access to Open-Source, 3GPP-Compliant Telecom Software

Access free, open-source cellular stacks—including RAN, core network (EPC/5GC), and UE—to build and experiment on commodity hardware. This enables researchers and developers to prototype and validate wireless innovations without the cost of proprietary equipment or licensing.

Collaborative Development

As a community member, you can directly shape the evolution of mobile network software by contributing code, features, and fixes to the OAI roadmap. Participation in mailing lists, forums, and developer meetings allows you to engage in technical governance and stay aligned with project priorities.

Learning, Training, and Skill Development

Access to webinars, documentation, and community events helps build deep expertise in 3GPP standards, protocol stacks, and software-defined networking. The OAI community offers a hands-on environment that’s ideal for students, academic researchers, and early-career engineers to learn by doing.

Research and Real-World Deployment Support

Real network deployment scenarios, including private 5G and testbed environments, letting users to experiment with actual end-to-end setups. OAI’s ongoing roadmap includes expansions into next-generation (e.g., 6G) research and tooling, often with academic and industrial partners contributing and testing new paradigms.
